As Creepy As Clowns

Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..

Clowning around in Chick-fil-A , were two of Ringling Bros. 20 clowns, giving out coupons for a discount on tickets and also entertaining the patrons with their talented juggling.

Chick-Fil-A, Baltimore Pike and Rt 420, Springfield, a sponsor of the upcoming Ringling circus, allowed the clowns to act as the ringmasters during their dinner time hour on Thursday, Jan. 17, to entertain the crowd and promote their upcoming shows in February.

The clowns, Alex Barney and Mike Richter, conversed with customers as they handed out stickers to the children, exchanged high fives, and they gave coupons with a code for a discoun  to the parents.  At the conclusion of the shows in February coupons for free Chick-Fil-A eight piece nuggets will be handed out to spectators.

Between the crowded store and full parking lot, customers walked carefully around the store, the way a circus performer walks on a tight rope. The large audience posed as no challenge to the performers. To the contrary, the clowns used the crowd in their favor by getting several brave children to assist them in their final trick of the night. Four children stood shoulder to shoulder without moving as both clowns juggled three objects, shaped as bowling pins, back and forth to each other. This act silenced spectators who watched with amazement, followed with “whoas” and applause.  The experience was similar to the audience’s reaction of holding their breath while in trance watching the taming of lions.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey will present Built To Amaze in the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The Feb. 13 to Feb. 17 shows will feature a 20-year-old female being shot out of a cannon. She will perform this over 850 times. Alex Barney, a clown dressed similar to a boy scout, said he hopes everything goes well.  With a smile spreading bigger than the one painted on his face, he said that’s a lot of times to be shot out of a cannon. He said the circus is bringing back old traditions, making them new again. The show that prides on being “The Greatest Show On Earth” involves more than 110 performers.

A third generation clown, Barney joins Ringling for his fifth year. After posing for photo-opts with children, Barney handed out coupons telling patrons, “it’s a ticket for a seat, but you’re only going to need the edge of your seat.”

Tickets can be purchased online at ComcastTIX.com or by phone at 1-800-298-4200.
