An elderly dog named "Bear," has just recently tasted true freedom for the first time in his life. Bear was "loved" so much by his former owner that when good Samaritans tried to secure ownership, in an effort to free Bear from his chain and give him the life that he deserved, they were told no.

An area animal advocate who knew of Bear's sad existence made sure that his family had straw and food during the winter months and food and flea treatments during the summer months - though the basics were covered, Bear, on his chain, merely existed, rather than lived.

Recently, the family that had told the good Samaritans that they loved Bear too much to give him up, moved away - leaving Bear behind on his chain. Fortunately, the people who had been keeping an eye on the senior dog were waiting in the wings to spare him a miserable, lonely death.

The conditions when he was first found after his family moved were poor - his rescuer stated, "His water was green and filled with bugs, there was no food in sight, his chain was all twisted and only about 3 feet long, rusty and chained tightly around his neck!"                                   http://www.examiner.com/article/after-14-long-years-bear-is-free-fr...
