SATURDAY'S SINGLES : AIR SUPPLY and .38 SPECIAL

Good morning gang and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles, a Birthday edition. First up, turning on our table is "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" by soft rock duo, Air Supply. The single, hailing from their 1983 Arista Greatest Hits compilation was written and composed by Jim Steinman of Meatloaf fame. It peaked at #80 in the UK, #45 in Australia, #30 in Ireland, #5 in South Africa, #3 in Canada, and #2 on the Adult Contemporary, the Cash Box, and the Hot 100 charts. It was held off the number one spot by another tune penned by Steinman, Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart". It's B-sde is the live version of "Late Again". Air Supply was founded by English-born singer-songwriter and guitarist Graham Russell and Australian lead vocalist Russell Hitchcock. It's Graham Russell's 72nd Birthday today, so Happy Birthday Graham !

Our second set of Birthday candles belongs to Jacksonville, Florida native Donnie Van Zant ( brother to brothers Ronnie and Johnny van Zant). Happy 70th Birthday Donnie ! In addition to performing with his brother Johnny as Van Zant, Donnie also founded the Southern rock band .38 Special for which he was a member from 1974 until 2013. Their single, "Hold On Loosely" was released  February 1981 on the A&M label and produced by Rodney Mills. It reached #27 on the Hot 100 and #3 on the Mainstream Rock Charts. It's parent album was  the group's 4th record, Wild-Eyed Southern Boys and it's B-side was "Rockin' Into The Night", the title track (#43 Hot 100) to their previous album.
