SATURDAY'S SINGLES : BLOOD, SWEAT, & TEARS and STEELY DAN

Good morning gang and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles. Today would have been the 77th Birthday of  New York City born  jazz trumpeter, composer and actor, Lew Soloff, best known for his work with psychedelic jazz rock group, Blood, Sweat, & Tears. He passed away in 2015, age 71, from a heart attack. "You've Made Me So Very Happy", a cover of Brenda Holloway's 1967 song, was released by Blood, Sweat, & Tears in 1969 on the Columbia label. The song, hailing from their self titled second album reached #35 in the UK, #18 on the Adult Contemporary charts, and #2 on the Hot 100. The tune, "Blues Part II" from the same LP, is featured on the B-side.

Our second selection comes to us via New York state jazz rock band, Steely Dan. Today would have been the co-founder, guitarist, bassist, and co-songwriter, Walter Becker's 71st Birthday. He passed away in 2017, age 67, from esophageal cancer. Their song, "FM (No Static at All)" was released in 1978 on the MCA label, and saw the soundtrack album to the film FM, as it's parent record. The track reached #49 in the UK, #24 on the Cash Box, and #22 on the Hot 100. "FM (No Static at All) - Reprise" is on the B-side.
