SATURDAY'S SINGLES : DIONNE WARWICK and FRANK SINATRA

Good morning gang and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles, a Birthday edition. First up on our calendar is Jersey born singer, actress, television host, and former Goodwill Ambassador for the Food and Agriculture Organization, Dionne Warwick. She is celebrating her 80th Birthday and we wish her many returns. Happy Birthday Dionne ! Her song, "Who Is Gonna Love Me" was released in 1968 on the Scepter label and was produced by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. The tune, from her 11th album Promises, Promises, reached #43 on the R&B charts, #33 on the Hot 100, #19 in Canada, and #4 on the Adult contemporary charts. It's B-side,  "(There's) Always Something There To Remind Me" was originally recorded as a demo by Warwick in 1963, but Lou Johnson released his version in '64. Warwick, then re-recorded it and it was released in 1967. To be honest I had never heard her version until listening to it last night. I'm most familiar with the song, as it was covered in 1983, by English new wave band Naked Eyes.

Our second Birthday wish belongs to to another New Jersey native, Ol' Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra, the singer, actor and producer who would have celebrated his 105th Birthday today. He passed away in 1998, age 82, after suffering a heart attack. The title track to his 1966 Reprise Records record, Strangers In The Night, reached #1 on The Cashbox, the Hot 100, the Adult Contemporary charts, as well as the UK. It's B-side is "Oh, You Crazy Moon", a Mel Torme cover, from Frank's other 1966 album, Moonlight Sinatra.
