First up on our calendar of cake is Atlanta, Georgia born singer, songwriter, actress, businesswoman, and author, Gladys Knight, of Gladys Knight & The Pips. Happy 78th Birthday Gladys ! With her in mind, we find ourselves spinning this 45 RPM, "Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me". The song was released February 1974 on Buddah Records and produced by Kenny Kerner and Richie Wise with Gladys and the Pips serving as co-producers. It peaked at #7 in the UK, #3 on the Hot 100, and #1 on the R&B charts. The track, originally a number one for country singer, Ray Price, hailed from The Pips' 11th studio album, Imagination, and features the tune, "Once in a Lifetime Thing" as it's flip side. It has been certified Gold in the US.
