SATURDAY'S SINGLES : NEW EDITION and JANET JACKSON

 Good morning, morning people and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles, a Birthday Edition. First up under our needle is the R&B boy band, New Edition. One of their members, Ralph Tresvant is celebrating his 52 Birthday today. Happy Birthday Ralph. With him in mind we spin their cover of  Little Anthony and the Imperials' "Tears On My Pillow". The New Edition version was released in 1986 on the MCA label, from their covers album, Under The Blue Moon. Their version features a guest appearance by Little Anthony himself and the guys seemed amazed he wants to vocalize with them. It reached #41 on the R&B charts and featured "Bring Back The Memories" as it's B-side. This album was the only New Edition album they recorded as a quartet. It was after they voted Bobby Brown out of the group, but before they hired Johnny Gil as his replacement.

Our second Birthday single belongs to Janet Damita Jo Jackson, or Janet Jackson as she is known the world over. She is turning 54 today. Happy Birthday Janet ! Her song "When I Think Of You", (A&M 1986) from her third album, Control, reached #1 on the Hot 100, #3 on the R&B charts,  #53 in Australia,  #6 in Canada,  #36 in Germany,  #10 in Ireland,  #2 in the Netherlands,  #23 in New Zealand, and #10 in the UK. "Pretty Boy" from her second album, Dream Street, is on the B-side.
