SATURDAY'S SINGLES - STEVE MARTIN and THE BLUES BROTHERS

Good morning gang and welcome back to Saturday's Singles, a Saturday Night Live edition. That's right folks, both of our selections today have basis in the late night comedy show. It was on this night in 1978 that comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi debuted the characters of lead vocalist 'Joliet' Jake Blues and harmonica player/vocalist Elwood Blues. The duo would become the first SNL performers to carry their own movie and in addition to that they released a  four albums. Our first single hails from their second record,  Briefcase Full of Blues. "Rubber Biscuit", (originally recorded by the Chips in 1956) was released in 1978 on the Atlantic label and produced by Bob Tischler. It reached #44 in Canada and #37 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. It is b/w  "'B' Movie Box Car Blues" also from Briefcase Full of Blues.  John Belushi died March 5, 1982, age 33 from an overdose of a heroin and cocaine known as a speedball.

Our second Saturday Night Live Single is "King Tut" by  Steve Martin and the Toot Uncommons  who were actually members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. On April 22, 1978, Martin premeired the novelty song. It was released a week later on the Warner Bros. label, written by Steve Martin, and produced by William E. McEuen, older Brother to John McEuen, the  banjo player of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. It's B-side features the instrumental tracks, "Sally Goodin" and
"Hoedown At Alice's" It's parent album is A Wild and Crazy Guy. "King Tut" peaked at #23 in Canada, #18 on the Cash Box, and #17 on the Hot 100. Our copy is a promotional copy with the picture sleeve.
