SATURDAY'S SINGLES : THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND and JOE WALSH

Good morning gang and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles. It was on this day in 1946 that Howard Duane Allman was born in  Nashville, Tennessee to parents Willis and Geraldine Allman. About a year later his brother Gregg was born and by the time they were teenagers the two had started playing music in their first band The Escorts, which led to the Allman Joys, which ultimately gave us The Allman Brothers Band. It's their song, "Straight From The Heart", that is our first Saturday's Singles selection of the day. "Straight From The Heart" was released July 1981 on Arista Records and produced by John Ryan. The song, written by Dickey Betts and Johnny Cobb, hailed from their 8th studio album, Brothers Of The Road, and reached #39 on the Hot 100 and #11 on the  Mainstream Rock charts. Originally paired with the tune "Leavin'", our copy is a 12" single with the single version on the A- side and the longer album version as it's B-side. Sadly Duane died at the tender age of 24 on  October 29, 1971, as a result of motorcycle crash. Gregg passed away May 27, 2017 from liver cancer. He was 69.
