Good morning gang and welcome back to the return of Saturday's Singles, a Birthday edition. Our first wish goes out to 82 year old New Jersey born soul singer, Shirley Alston Reeves, best known as the lead vocalist for the girl group, The Shirelles. Happy Birthday Shirley ! She was born in 1941 and while in high school formed The Shirelles with her friends Doris Kenner Jackson, Addie "Micki" Harris McPhadden and Beverly Lee. They had a string of hits in the 60s, including this one from 1961 and Scepter Records.  "Baby It's You" was written by Burt Bacharach and Barney Williams (the latter also produced it) and was the title track to The Shirelles' 4th studio album. The song reached #8 on the Hot 100 and #3 on the R&B charts and it's B-side is "The Things I Want to Hear (Pretty Words)", from the same LP.

Our second set of candles belongs to British reggae vocalist, Maxi Priest (Max Alfred Elliott). He was born on this day in 1961 and is celebrating his 62nd Birthday. Happy Birthday Maxi ! With him in mind we spotlight this 1996 Virgin Records release, "Watching the World Go By". The track was written by Andy Marvel, Gary Benson and Maxi Priest and then produced by Marvel. It peaked at #97 in Germany, #88 in Australia, and #36 in the UK. Our cassette copy features the songs, " All The Way" and  "Lion In The Jungle" on the flip side. The A side is from his 6th record, Man With The Fun.
