SITVA - THE MORMON TABERNACLE CHOIR - SONGS OF THE NORTH AND SOUTH, 1861-1865 -

Good Monday morning gang and welcome to the Memorial Day 2021 edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today we remember and honor our Military members who have died in the line of duty. From our Revolutionary War to all our armed conflicts today, we remember and honor your  greatest sacrifice, per your lives and acknowledge that you died for our Freedoms. Memorial Day saw it's origins shortly after the Civil War ended when General John A. Logan called for a nationwide day of remembrance to honor our fallen soldiers. It was originally called Decoration Day and held on May 30th. The name of the holiday eventually morphed into Memorial Day and in 1968 Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act which moved the celebration to the last Monday in May and changed the day into a Federal holiday. Our record of remembrance today is this 1961 Columbia Masterworks release, The Songs Of The North And South, 1861-1865 by The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Side A collects songs of the North, while Side B has songs of the South. The choir is directed by Richard P. Condie. Our copy still has it's two sided lyric sheet.
