STUCK IN THE VINYL A GAIN - CROSBY, STILLS, NASH, & YOUNG - 4 WAY STREET

Good Tuesday morning to you all and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we celebrate the 78th Birthday of Dallas, Texas native, vocalist, bandleader, multi instrumentalist, and producer Stephen Stills, best known for his work with  Buffalo Springfield and the supergroups, Crosby, Stills & Nash and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Happy Birthday Stephen !  Stephen was born in 1945 to parents  William Arthur Stills and Talitha Quintilla Collard. They were a military family and as a child Stephen moved often and developed a love for music including blues, folk, and Latin. In the 60s he dropped out of Louisiana State University and begin playing in different bands, including the Continentals, with Don Felder, and the nine-member vocal harmony group, the Au Go Go Singers, which is where he met his future Buffalo Springfield bandmate, Richard Furay. That group had an offshoot called The Company who toured Canada on a six week jaunt, and that led to them meeting Neil Young and the eventual formation of Buffalo Springfield. After their demise Stills joined David Crosby from the Byrds and Graham Nash from The Hollies to form Crosby, Stills & Nash and that led to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and that led to us, here today, featuring an album from them.

4 Way Street is a double live album recorded June 2–7, 1970, at the Fillmore East, NY,June 26–28, 1970, at The Forum, LA, and July 5, 1970, at the Chicago Auditorium and then it was released on  April 7, 1971 on the Atlantic label and produced by David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, and Neil Young. It peaked at #19 in Japan, #13 in Sweden, #11 in Italy, #10 in Denmark, #8 in Norway, #6 in Australia, #5 in the UK, #4 in France, #3 in Spain, #2 in Canada and on the Cash Box Top 100, and #1 on Record World Album Chart and the Billboard 200. It has been certified 4X Platinum in the US. The LP is a gatefold without a track listing and in fact the only listing to be found is on the labels themselves and a full color fold out lyric sheet poster. Our poster is long gone. The first disc is more acoustic oriented and showcases the individuals, whereas the second record is more electric and features the sum of it's musicians' parts.
