Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Great Monday morning gang and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember Mishawaka, Indiana born drummer and session musician, Roger Hawkins, on what would have been his 78th Birthday. He was born in 1945 and is perhaps best known as a member of the studio backing band, the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section (also known as the Swampers) of the country music group Alabama. In addition to that he can be heard of albums and songs from Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, Bob Seger, Joan Baez, Jimmy Buffet, Kim Carnes, Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Linda Ronstadt, and much, much more. Today we have him on the third solo album from Art Garfunkel. Watermark was released October 25, 1977 on the Columbia label and produced by Garfunkel. It reached #41 in Australia, #25 in the UK, #19 on the Billboard 200, #18 in New Zealand, #15 in Canada, and #11 in Norway. Three singles were released ; "Crying In My Sleep" (#95 Canadian Adult Contemporary, #25 US Adult Contemporary), "Marionette" (#18 Canadian Adult Contemporary) and "What a Wonderful World", a cover of Sam Cooke's song, but on Garfunkel's Phil Ramone produced version, Paul Simon and James Taylor trade off on lead vocals.
Hawkins passed away May 20, 2021, age 75 after suffering many health problems, including COPD.
