STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - BEN COLDER AS PLAYED BY SHEB WOOLEY - SPOOFING THE BIG ONES

Good morning Thursday people and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today we remember Oklahoma born singer and actor, Sheb Wooley, on this, the 18th anniversary of his passing. He died in 2003, age 82, from leukemia. Although primarily known for his novelty hit "The Purple People Eater", Wooley also enjoyed moderate success parodying popular country music as Ben Colder, along the same lines as Homer & Jethro. Today we bring you his 5th studio album, Spoofing The Big Ones by Ben Colder As Played By Sheb Wooley. The LP was released in 1962 on the MGM label and produced by Jim Vienneau. Although it failed to make a dent in the album charts, it's sole single, "Don't Go Near the Eskimos"  reached #62 on the Hot 100 and #18 on the Country Singles chart. The other songs include parodies of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Marty Robbins, and others. The vocal quartet, the  Jordanaires provide backup for Sheb and the artwork is by page favorite Jack Davis. It is a visual amalgamation of the songs.
