Good morning Wednesday warriors and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Not only was yesterday (08/08/23) Mel Tillis' Birthday but it also marked 6 years since the death of country singer, guitarist, songwriter, and actor Glen Campbell. He was born April 22, 1936 in Billstown, Arkansas to parents, John Wesley Campbell (a sharecropper) and Carrie Campbell. He was the 7th of 12 children. At age 4 his Father bought him a Sears guitar and his Uncle taught him to play. At age 17 he moved to Albuquerque to join his Uncle's band. During his 7 decade career he released over 60 studio albums, 7 live ones, and 82 charting singles. Today we are spinning his eleventh album, Wichita Lineman. The LP was released November 4, 1968 on the Capitol label and produced by Al De Lory. It peaked at #1 in Canada, #1 on the Top Country Albums chart, and #1 on the Billboard 200. The title track (#18 Australia, #12 Ireland, #7 UK, #3 Hot 100, #1 Canada, #1 Canada Country, #1 Adult Contemporary, #1 Hot Country Songs) and "Dreams of the Everyday Housewife" (#63 Australia, #32 Hot 100, #25 Canada, #6 Adult Contemporary, #3 Hot Country Songs, #1 Canada Country) were released as singles. Most of the guest musicians are, like Campbell part of the Wrecking Crew. Glen Campbell passed away August 8, 2017, age 81, from Alzheimer's disease.
