Good Tuesday morning to you all and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again. It was on this very day twenty years ago that Kingsland, Arkansas native, singer, songwriter, musician, actor, author and Air Force Veteran, Johnny Cash, passed away at age 71 from complications from diabetes, less than four months after his Wife, June Carter Cash. He was born February 26, 1932 to parents Carrie Cloveree (née Rivers) and Ray Cash and was the middle child in a 7 sibling set, with three older and three younger. During his 49 year career he released 97 albums but it is his 3pth, A Thing Called Love, that is our subject of sound today. The LP was released April 3, 1972 on the Columbia label and produced by Larry Butler. It peaked at #112 on the Billboard 200, #8 in the UK, and #2 on the Top Country Albums chart. Three singles saw the light of day ; "Papa Was a Good Man" (#104 Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles, #16 Hot Country Singles), the Jerry Reed penned title track (#49 Belgium, #37 Billboard Easy Listening, #13 Ultratop 50, #6 Netherlands, #4 UK, #2 Hot Country Songs, #1 Canada Country Tracks, Ireland), and "Kate" (#89 Canadian RPM Top Singles, #75 Hot 100, #2 Hot Country Songs, #1 Canadian RPM Country Tracks) . Joining John on the album are The Carter Family, The Tennessee Three, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Reed.
