Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good Thursday morning to you gang, and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today we remeber Jersey born vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Glenn Goins, on what would have been his 66th Birthday. He passed away in 1978, age 24, from Hodgkin's lymphoma. Goins was best known for his work in the George Clinton bands Parliament, Funkadelic and Parliament-Funkadelic. To honor his legacy we spotlight the 6th album by Parliament. Funkentelechy vs. the Placebo Syndrome was released November 28, 1977, on the Casablanca label and produced and conceived by George Clinton. It reached #13 on the Billboard 200 and #2 on the R&B chart. It has been certified Platinum in the US. Three out of this world singles were released ; "Bop Gun (Endangered Species)" (#14 R&B), "Funkentelechy" (#27 R&B), and their first #1, "Flash Light" (#1 R&B, #16 Hot 100). This would be Goins last outing with Clinton's outfit(s), as he would leave shortly thereafter to form his own funk group, Quazar. The album came with a full color poster and aa lyric sheet sized comic book. I can only imagine, the poster ended up on someone's wall, while the comic book is still with the record and intact.
