STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - RONNIE MCDOWELL - THE KING IS GONE

Good morning faithful readers and welcome back to the Thursday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Just as yesterday, we were a day late in wishing Roger Whittaker a Happy Birthday, today we are a day early in wishing country music artist, Ronnie McDowell, a very Happy 72nd Birthday. The Tennessee native and former NAvy serviceman was born March 25, 1950 and we send him off early by giving his debut record, The King Is Gone, a look and a listen. The King Is Gone was released in 1977 on the independent Scorpion Records and reached #66 in Australia and #18 on the Top Country Albums chart. It's singles were the Roy Orbison cover, "Only The Lonely",  "Naturally", and the title and lead track, "The King Is Gone" (#42 Adult Contemporary, #13 Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, and #8 Canada Country. Following the death of Elvis, McDowell, A Presley devotee, recorded the song and it became the first million selling song and his biggest hit to date. This album originally came with a Authentic Front Page of "The Nashville Tennessean" announcing the death of the King, but sadly someone had already absconded with ours before we owned it.
