STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - SOEUR SOURIRE - THE SINGING NUN

Good Tuesday morning to you all and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember Belguim born Nun and recording artist, Jeanne-Paule Marie "Jeannine" Deckers, also known as Sœur Sourire, The Singing Nun, who along with her partner, Annie Pécher, committed suicide on this day in 1985. Decker was 51 and Pécher was 40 years old. With them in mind, we spotlight Decker's debut album, The Singing Nun. The LP was released 1963 on the Phillips label. In December of that same year, the album peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200, making her the first solo female artist in the era to do so. The single, "Dominique", an international hit, also clenched the number one position. The gatefold album contains a illustrated storybook along with a portfolio of 4 sketches.  The album is sung entirely in French, and we have two copies, plus the soundtrack to the film, The Singing Nun, starring Debbie Reynolds.
