Our second Number One comes to us via New Jersey singer-songwriter, Gloria Gaynor. "I Will Survive" was originally released on the Polydor label, in August 1978 as the B-side to "Substitute". The song enjoyed runaway success after DJs started playing it instead of the A-side. It was then re-released with "I Will Survive" as the A-side and "Substitute" on the flip side. It peaked at #1 during this week in March of 1979. It also claimed top spot in Canada, Ireland, the UK, the Cash Box, and Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart. Our copy is one of those "Back To Back Hit Series" , released on Collectibles/ Polygram label in 1986. It has "Love's Theme" by Love Unlimited Orchestra on the flip side. That song reached #1 in 1974.
