Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good morning gang and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles. On this day in 1946, drummer Paul Wheatbread was born. As the native San Diegan turns 74 today, we commemorate the date by spinning this song. "Lady Willpower" by Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, was released June of 1968 on the Columbia label and written and produced by Jerry Fuller. Hailing from the group's third album Incredible, the tune reached #26 on the Easy Listening charts, #5 in the UK, #2 on the Hot 100, and #1 on the Cashbox charts. Our second selection comes to us via The Doobie Brothers. Today is also the 15th year anniversary of the death of their former vocalist and drummer, Keith Knudsen, who died on this day in 2005, age 56 from pneumonia. To honor his legacy, we spotlight the 1974 Warner Brothers release, "Black Water". The track came off their 4th record, What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits, and reached #38 on the Cashbox, #33 in Canada, and #32 on the Hot 100. It's B-side is "Another Park, Another Sunday", from the same LP. The Ted Templeman produced tune features guitarist Patrick Simmons, who wrote the song and is the only consistent member of the band throughout it's existence, on vocals.
