SATURDAY'S SINGLES - JOE TEX and GLEN CAMPBELL

Good morning gang and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles. Our first selection comes to us via Southern soul singer Joe Tex. Today would have been Joe's 85th Birthday. He passed away in 1982, following a heart attack. To honor his legacy, we find ourselves spinning this 1972 Dial Records release, " I Gotcha". The song was the title track from his 13th album, and reached #2 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the R&B charts. It's B-side is "A Mother's Prayer", which also saw significant radio play (#41 R&B).

Engineer – Ernie Winfrey, Stan Kessler
Mastered By – Gilbert Kong
Producer – Buddy Killen
Written-By, vocals – Joe Tex

Composer - Guy Draper

Our second selection comes in the form of "Southern Nights" by the late great Glen Campbell, who passed away on this day in 2017, age 81, from Alzheimer's disease. "Southern Nights"  (both album and song) was released in 1977 on Capitol Records and produced by Gary Klein. The hit hit #1 on the Canada pop charts, Canada Adult Contemporary, US Adult Contemporary, Hot Country Songs, and the Hot 100. It's B-side is a wonderfully blazing cover of the "William Tell Overture". I'll list the album credits below because I could not find any individual credits for the single.
