Good morning gang and welcome back to Saturday's Singles, a Birthday edition. First up under our needle is "Darling Be Home Soon" by Greenwich Village based rock band, The Lovin' Spoonful. The song was written by John Sebastian, produced by Erik Jacobsen, and then released January 1967on the Kama Sutra label. It peaked at #44 in the UK, #16 in the Netherlands, #15 on the Hot 100, and #8 in Canada. The song hails from the LP, You're a Big Boy Now, a soundtrack album for a film by the same name from Francis Ford Coppola. It's B-side is "Darlin' Companion" from their third studio album, Hums of the Lovin' Spoonful. Their bassist, Steve Boone, was born in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina on this day in 1943 and is celebrating his 80th Birthday. Happy Birthday Steve !

Our second set of candles belongs to Denver, Colorado born vocalist and keyboardist, Jerry Corbetta, best known as the front man for the for the Colorado rock band Sugarloaf. Jerry was born in 1947 and passed away September 16, 2016, age 68, from Pick's disease. Today would have been his 76th Birthday. With him in mind we spotlight this 1971 Liberty Records release, "Tongue in Cheek". The tune was written by guitarist, Robert Yeazel, produced by Frank Slay and reached #55 on the Hot 100 and #40 in Canada. It is b/w the song "Woman" and both tracks are from their second record, Spaceship Earth, which we own and have featured on this very page.
