First up on the calendar is Chuck Portz, original bassist for The Turtles, who is celebrating his 75th Birthday today. Happy Birthday Chuck ! The single we spin in his honor, is "You Baby", the title track to the group's second album. The tune, released in 1966 on the White Whale label, reached #20 on the Hot 100, #17 on the Cash Box, and #11 in Canada. It was written by P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri and also released by The Vogues, as well as The Mamas And The Papas, that same year.
It's B-side is "Wanderin' Kind", the lead track from their debut album, It Ain't Me Babe.

Our second Birthday song is for former Jethro Tull bassist John Evan, who is celebrating his 72nd Birthday. Happy Birthday John ! "Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of A New Day" is our track for him. From their 7th album War Child, released in 1974, on the Chrysalis label, the song peaked at #75 on the Hot 100 and features "Sealion" on the flipside, also from War Child.
