Good morning Wednesday warriors and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today marks 19 years since the death of singer, guitarist, songwriter, and promoter, John Phillips, from folk rock vocal group, The Mamas And The Papas. John passed away in 2001, age 65, from heart failure. With him in mind, we spotlight the group's fourth studio album, The Papas And The Mamas.
The Papas And The Mamas was released in May of 1968 on the Dunhill label and produced by Lou Adler. It peaked at #15 on the Billboard 200. Three singles were released ; "Dream A Little Dream Of Me" (#12 Hot 100, #2 Adult Contemporary, #1 Australia) , "Twelve-Thirty (Young Girls Are Coming To The Canyon)" (#20 Hot 100), and "Safe In My Garden" (#53 Hot 100). The front of the gatefold (the SPECIAL FUN JACKET) is split and designed as a flip-book, so you can mismatch the top of the band members' faces with the lower half of others.
