Good morning record enthusiasts and welcome back to the Sunday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again . We didn't want the week to get away without mentioning that Friday (08/04/23) was what would have been the 104th Birthday of Choctaw County, Mississippi native and founding member of the Southern gospel quartet The Blackwood Brothers, James Blackwood. He was born in 1919 to sharecropper William Emmett Blackwood and his wife Carrie Prewitt Blackwood and when he was 15 co founded the group with his Brothers Doyle, Roy, and nephew R.W. in 1934. Over the course of their 9 decade career and (still) counting the guys have recorded over 200 albums, selling over 50 million. James holds a record for an individual to have been nominated for a Grammy Award for 28 consecutive years. All in all he received 31 nominations and won nine. The group itself won 8 Grammys, 7 Dove Awards and are members of the Memphis Music Hall of Fame, Gospel Music Hall of Fame, the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame. Today we honor James legacy by spinning this 1977 Skylite release, Live! From Nashville by The The Blackwood Brothers Quartet.
