Good morning Friday people and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember Hunt City, Illinois native, musician, actor, and author, Burl Ives (Burl Icle Ivanhoe Ives), on this, the 28th anniversary of his passing. he was born June 14, 1909 to parents Levi "Frank" Ives, a farmer and contractor and Cordelia "Dellie" Ives. He passed away on this day in 1995, age 85, from oral cancer. During the course of his 7 decade career, he excelled in films like East of Eden, A Face In Crowd, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. He also turned his attention toward television and can be seen in Roots, Little House on the Prairie , Playhouse 90: The Miracle Worker, and of course we heard him as the voice of Sam The Snowman in the 1964 NBC animated Christmas special, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. On the musical side of the spectrum, Ives he started in folk and pop standards and eventually gravitated towards C&W. Our selection today fits that standard. Songs of the West, a 12 track cowboy concept album, was released in 1961 on the Decca label and produced by Owen Bradley.
