Hello Wednesday warriors and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . It was on this very day in 1965, that the 36th President of these United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ), gave his historic State of the Union address, laying out his vision for the Great Society. In it he spoke into existence the words that proved to be the catalyst for generations worth of government programs and initiatives, including Medicare/Medicaid, Head Start, the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the War On Poverty, etc.
About a year or so later, Bronx born stand up comedian, Charles Manna (October 6, 1920 – November 9, 1971) , released a comedy album called The Rise And Fall Of The Great Society. Hilarity ensued. The LP was release in 1966 on Verve Records and was produced by Sheldon Schultz. On it Manna tackles tough subjects such as the court, the CIA, the Pentagon, bombs and more. The wonderful cover art is by page favorite Jack Davis.
