Good morning Sunday people and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native, percussionist, vibraphonist, arranger, bandleader, and composer, Vince Montana, on what would have been his 95th Birthday. He is best known as a member MFSB (Mother Father Sister Brother) a group of about 30 musicians who were the house band for Philadelphia International Records, as well as the founder of the Salsoul Orchestra, and is considered "the Godfather of disco". He was born in 1928 and passed away April 13, 2013, age 85, after suffering a long illness. With him in mind, we spotlight the self titled debut by MFSB. The LP was released in 1973 on the Philadelphia International label and produced by Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. It features instrumental covers of popular songs of the day and peaked at #131 on the Billboard 200 and #20 on the R&B charts. It's "soul" single was the cover of Sly and the Family Stone's "Family Affair, but it did not chart.
I really like the cover art on this one.
