Great Monday morning gang and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember Cotton Plant, Arkansas native, vocalist, guitarist, and gospel recording star, Sister Rosetta Tharpe (Rosetta Nubin) on what would have ben her 108th Birthday. She was born in 1915 to Katie Bell Nubin and Willis Atkins, who were cotton pickers and during the course of her 6 decade career, she recorded over 12 studio albums. She is said to have influenced Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Little Richard. That's a lot of influence. She passed away October 9, 1973, age 58, from a stroke.
Today we find ourselves spinning her 5th studio record, Spirituals in Rhythm. The LP was released in 1960 on the Promenade label and produced by Sergio Balloni and sees Tharpe teaming up with the The Hot Gospel Tabernacle Choir And Players for 12 tracks of joy.
