Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good Thursday morning record enthusiasts and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember songwriter, singer, arranger, reverend, and publisher, Mosie Lister, on what would have been hos 101st Birthday. He was born in Cochran, Georgia in 1921 and passed away February 12, 2015, age 93. Mosie got his start in the Sunny South Quartet, before leaving that group with Lakeland native, Jim "Big Chief" Wetherington. They were then recruited by Hovie Lister (no relation - can you believe that ?!), to join The Statesman Quartet, but Mosie quickly tired of the touring life and and in 1953 he retired from it, and formed the Mosie Lister Publishing Company. He was a prolific writer and has published over 700 songs and they have been covered by nearly every Southern Gospel group out there, including the Statesmen Quartet, Cathedral Quartet, the Blackwoods, the Blue Ridge Quartet, the Jordanaires, and the LeFevres. as well as artists like George Beverly Shea, Porter Wagoner, Bill Gaither, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, and Elvis Presley. Today we are featuring this 1959 Columbia release, Prayers In Song by The Chuck Wagon Gang. It has three of Lister's songs ; "Where No One Stands Alone", " Hard Trials Will Soon Be Over", and "I'm Depending On Jesus". Our copy doesn't have it's original jacket. I found this record hiding in a Best of the Chuck Wagon Gang cover.
