Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good Tuesday morning to you all and welco0em back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today we are thrilled to wish North Carolina born singer songwriter and pianist, Tori Amos (Myra Ellen Amos), a very Happy 60th Birthday. Happy Birthday Tori ! She was born in 1963 to parents Mary Ellen (Copeland) and Edison McKinley Amos. At age two she started playing by ear and by age three was composing. At 5 she was the youngest student ever admitted to the preparatory division of the Peabody Institute and studied classical piano from 1968 to 1974, when her scholarship ended at age 11. Her first outing musically, was the one album for the short lived pop band, Y Kant Tori Read, which included future Gun 'N' Roses drummer, Matt Sorum. When that band disbanded she started her solo career with the release of her debut record, Little Earthquakes. The LP was originally released January 6, 1992 on the Atlantic label and produced by Tori, Eric Rosse, Davitt Sigerson, and Ian Stanley. It peaked at #85 in the Netherlands, #65 in Germany, #54 on the Billboard 200, #49 in Canada, #18 in New Zealand, and #14 in Australia and the UK. It has been certified 2X Platinum in the US. Five singles were released from the 12 track album ; "Me And A Gun" (did not chart), "Silent All These Years" (#128 Australia, #65 Hot 100, #27 Alternative Airplay, #26 UK, #24 Adult Top 40), "China" (#61 UK), "Winter" (#76 Eurochart 100, #49 Australia, #25 UK), and "Crucify" (#84 Germany, #83 Australia, #79 Netherlands, #74 Canada Top Singles, #41 Eurochart 100, #33 Canada Adult Contemporary, #25 Ireland, #22 Alternative Airplay, #17 France and New Zealand, #16 Sweden, and #15 UK). This album along with her 2nd (Under The Pink) and third albums (Boys For Pele) were very influential for me. I also enjoyed her covers album, Strange Little Girls from 2001. She released it with 3 different covers and I bought them all. Last year I got an autographed copy of her newest release, ocean to ocean. This copy was bought off Ebay in January and opened last night for this occasion.
