STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - VANGELIS - CHARIOTS OF FIRE

Good morning Wednesday warriors and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today we remember Greek composer, arranger, and producer, Vangelis ( Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou), on this, the one year anniversary of his passing. He was born March 29, 1943 and died May 17, 2022, age 79, from heart failure. He is best known for the film score to the 1981 British historical sports drama, Chariots Of Fire, and that is what we are spinning for him today. The film, based on a true story was  directed by Hugh Hudson, written by Colin Welland and produced by David Puttnam, was released in 1981. It stars Ben Cross and Ian Charleson, as  Eric Liddell and  and Harold Abrahams, as two British runners in the 1924 Olympics. Lidell runs for the glory of God and Abrahams to overcome prejudice. The soundtrack was released the same year on the Polydor label and produced by Vangelis. It peaked at #39 in Germany, #11 in Austria, #9 in the Netherlands, #6 in New Zealand, #5 in the UK and Australia, #2 in Canada, and #1 on the Billboard 200, where it remained for 4 weeks. Our copy was recently purchased at Treasure House Antiques & Collectibles, in Winter Haven, where my beautiful Wife Lynn, has her booth.
