13th ANNUAL GATORLAND MUSIC CLINIC - Various Artists

Good morning audiophiles and welcome back to the Friday edition. After perusing the typical "on this day" music sites this week, I simply wasn't feeling the usual birth/death dates and the like, so I thought I'd take this day to showcase some of our more unique and local vinyl pieces. So, the year was 1972 and the location was the University Of Florida at Gainesville. The event was the 13th Annual Gatorland Music Clinic. This clinic was held the week of July 23 -29 and the musical director was Gary Langford, with Richard Palmer serving as coordinator. We also have the clinic record from 1974. I believe the clinic is now the Gatorland Band Camp.

From the liner notes :

"The Gator Land Music Clinic was begun in 1959 to provide an exploratory experience in music for outstanding high school musicians, utilizing the artistic and recreational resources of the University of Florida. Each student has a  unique opportunity to live on a college campus for one week, to attend classes in a college atmosphere, and study with college teachers. The Artist-Faculty numbering more than 50 includes music educators from the University's Department of Music as well as outstanding clinicians, teachers, and performers from throughout the United States. The students are exposed to virtually every facet of music during this exciting week of music activities.

"The 1972 GatorLand Music Clinic, with an enrollment of over 350 junior high and high school students from throughout the Southeastern United States, reached it's climax with a group of final concerts by the Piano Division, Stage Bands, Ensembles, Florida Vocal Association Workshop, Choir, Gatorland Orchestra, Gatorland Band, Orange Band, Blue Band and the Gatorland Honor Band. This recording includes a portion if this final group of concerts."
