SATURDAY'S SINGLES : KISS and IRON BUTTERFLY

Good morning gang and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles. On this day in 1980, drummer Eric Carr joined the iconic rockers  KIϟϟ, replacing  Peter Criss. Carr whose real name was Paul Charles Caravello, took on the persona of The Fox.  His first record with the group was the heavily critiqued Music from "The Elder", followed by Killers,  Creatures of the Night, Lick It Up, and,  Animalize, which happens to be my favorite and the parent album of our first Saturday's Singles selection. "Heaven's On Fire" was released September 14, 1984 on the Mercury label. It was written by Paul Stanley and Desmond Child and produced by Stanley. It peaked at #62 in Australia, #49 on the Hot 100, #46 in Canada, #43 in the UK , #19 in Sweden, and #11 on the Mainstream Rock charts. It's B-side is "Lonely Is The Hunter, also from Animalize. Carr remained a member until his death of heart cancer, age 41, in 1991.

Our second selection comes to us via psychedelic rock band Iron Butterfly. Today we remember their guitarist Erik Brann, on this, the 17th anniversary of his death. He passed away in 2003, age 52, from cardiac arrest. Our second selection is the group's best known track,  "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", which Brann was only seventeen at the time of it's release. It was the title track to their sophomore  album, released June 14, 1968 on the Atco label and produced by Jim Hilton. Our copy,  is of course the single version weighing in a a mere 2:52, as opposed to the album version which boasts an incredible track length of 17:05. The single reached #30 on the Hot 100. It's B-side is  "Soul Experience" which also appeared on their third record, Ball.

Erik Brann – guitars, vocals
Ron Bushy – drums, percussion
Lee Dorman – bass guitar, backing vocals
Doug Ingle – Vox Continental organ, vocals
