SATURDAY'S SINGLES - DIONNE WARWICK and TOM JONES

Good morning gang and welcome to the return of Saturday's Singles. This week brought us the sad news that  Kansas City, Missouri native, composer, songwriter, record producer, and pianist, Burt Bacharach had passed away at age 94 from natural causes. Our Hearts, Thoughts, and Prayers go out to his Fans, Friends, and Family. With him in mind we spotlight two singles with his musical fingerprints on them. The first one is "You'll Never Walk Alone" by Dionne Warwick. The song was written by  Richard Rodgers and  Oscar Hammerstein II for the 1945 musical Carousel. This version appeared on Dionne's seventh album for Scepter Records, On Stage and in the Movies, which was arranged by Bacharach and produced by Bacharach and Hal David. It was released in 1967. The song did not chart. The B-side "Only The Strong, Only The Brave" was arranged by Burt and written and produced by Burt and Hal.

Our second single is "What's New Pussycat?" by Welsh singer, Tom Jones (Sir Thomas Jones Woodward OBE). The tune, from the movie of the same name, was written by  Burt Bacharach and Hal David and produced by Peter Sullivan. It was the title track to Tom's second record and was released in 1965 on Decca Records with "The Rose" as it's flip side. It peaked at #11 in the UK and #3 in the US. Our copy is on the Parrot label and is b\w  "Once Upon A Time".
