SATURDAY'S SINGLES : "WEIRD AL" YANKOVIC and DWIGHT YOAKAM

Good morning gang and welcome back to the return of Saturday's Singles, a Birthday edition. First up on our calendar of cake is  Lynwood, California born  singer, musician, record producer, satirist, and actor, "Weird Al" Yankovic (real name :  Alfred Matthew Yankovic). He was born in 1959 and is celebrating his 62nd Birthday today. Happy Birthday "Weird Al" ! With him in mind, we spotlight the second single of his Even Worse album, "Lasagna". "Lasagna", a parody version of Los Lobos' "La Bamba" was released May 27, 1988 on the Scotti Brothers label and produced by his longtime collaborator Rick Derringer. As far as I can tell, it did not chart. Our copy is a white label promo, with "Lasagna" on both sides with a picture sleeve. It was just purchased the other day at Treasure House Antiques and Collectibles in Winter Haven, FL, where my beautiful Wife, Lynn has her booths.

In lieu of individual song credits, I'll post the Even Worse album credits :

Our second set of Birthday candles belong to 64 year old singer-songwriter, musician, actor, and director, Dwight Yoakam. Happy Birthday Dwight ! We find ourselves playing his last single of the 1980s, "Long White Cadillac", at the time a new song off his first greatest hits package, Just Lookin' for a Hit. It was released in 1989 on the Reprise label and produced by guitarist, Peter Anderson. The single reached #44 on the Canada Country charts and #35 on the American country charts. The flip side of our cassette has "Little Ways" on it, a #8 hit for him in 1987.
