SATURDAY SINGLES : BOBBY VINTON and HENRY MANCINI

Good morning, morning people and welcome back to the return of Saturday's Singles, a Birthday edition. First up on our calendar of cake is Pennsylvania born singer, songwriter, former teen idol, and actor Bobby Vinton. He was born in 1935 and is celebrating his 87th Birthday today. Happy Birthday Bobby ! In 1976 on Bobby's 28th studio album, Serenades of Love he covered Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade" for ABC Records. Vinton's version reached #113 on the Cash Box, #97 on the Hot 100, and #15 on the Adult Contemporary charts. It's B-side is "Why Can't I Get Over You?" from the Heart Of Hearts album (#108 Billboard 200) . This copy came from the now Legendary J.R.'s Junk Trunk and has an address label for Jim White in Auburndale, FL. If Jim is still around, tell him I'm spinning his 45.

Our second Birthday wish belongs to Cleveland born composer, conductor, arranger, pianist and flautist, Henry Mancini. He was born on this day in 1924 and passed away June 14, 1994, from  pancreatic cancer, at age 70. Had he lived he would have celebrated his 98th Birthday today. We honor his legacy with this 1961 RCA Victor release, "Moon River" from the film, Breakfast At Tiffany's. The song was composed by Mancini  with lyrics by Johnny Mercer and performed by Audrey Hepburn in the film. It peaked at #44 in the UK,  #14 in Canada, #11 on the Hot 100, #5 on the Cash Box, and #3 on the Easy Listening charts. It's B-side is  "Breakfast at Tiffany's".
