Good Monday morning gang ( if indeed you believe in such things) and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again. It was this week in 1971, that the Norman Lear produced sitcom All In The Family debuted on CBS television and with it the first the first sound of a toilet flushing on TV. The series, starring Carroll O'Connor as Archie Bunker, the "lovable bigot" and head of a working class family in Queens, ran 9 seasons before spinning off several other shows like Maude, Good Times, The Jeffersons, Checking In, Archie Bunker's Place, Gloria, and 704 Hauser. The show is considered one of television sitcom's greatest achievements, as it used humor to break social divides and tackled serious issues such as racism, homosexuality, religion, war, abortion, cancer, menopause, and impotence. We tip our hat to this groundbreaking series by featuring this 1971 Atlantic Records release, All In The Family by the original cast. The LP includes both the opening theme song plus a hilarious selection of skits from the first season. It comes with a black and white booklet containing the show's synopsis, cast biographies and lyrics to the theme song.
