STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - ALLMAN JOYS - EARLY ALLMAN (FEATURING DUANNE AND GREGG ALLMAN)

Good morning Thursday people and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . December 8th is an interesting day in music history. Here are a few of the going ons, on this day :

In 1963 Frank Sinatra Jr was kidnapped at gunpoint,
In 1968 Graham Nash left The Hollies,
In 1980 1980, John Lennon was murdered by crazed fan Mark Chapman,
In 1982 country singer Marty Robbins died aged 57,
In 1984 Motley Crue vocalist Vince Neil was involved in a car accident that killed drummer,  "Razzle" Dingley from the glam Hanoi Rocks,
2004, guitarist Dimebag Darrell was one of five people murdered by crazed fan Nathan Gale while performing on stage with his band Damageplan,
1925 Sammy Davis Jr is born,
1943 Doors vocalist and Poet, Jim Morrison is born,
1947 Gregg Allman of The Allman Brothers Band is born,

1956 rock musician Warren Cuccurullo of Frank Zappa/ Duran Duran/ is born
1957 Phil Collen, guitarist for Def Leppard is born,
1962 Megadeth's former guitarist Marty Friedman is born,
1966 Sinead O'Connor is born,
1973 vocalist Corey Taylor, lead singer of Slipknot and Stone Sour is born.

Our subject of sound today is Gregg Allman. He was born December 8, 1947 in Nashville, Tennessee and passed away May 27, 2017, age 69, due to complications from liver cancer. We honor his legacy with a look back to his pre Allman Brothers Band, band the Allman Joys and their album,  Early Allman (Featuring Duane And Gregg Allman). The LP was released in 1973 on the Dial label and produced by John D. Loudermilk. It features Duane on lead guitar and Gregg on lead vocals and the organ. On it we find the Brothers mixing in covers like "Old Man River" and Willie Dixon's "Spoonful" with originals that have more in common with groups like the Hollies and the Animals, than they do with the Southern rock sound that would later formulate in the Brothers' band. It's a fine album and a must have for fans of all things Allman. We purchased our copy within the past couple of years from Lakeland's very own Jesse Carl Vinyl.
