STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - GRAM PARSONS - LIVE 1973

Good Tuesday morning to you all and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember influential singer-songwriter, guitarist, and pianist, Gram Parsons, (Ingram Cecil Connor III) on this, the 50th anniversary of his death. The Winter Haven, FL native is best known for his work with The Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, the International Submarine Band, and Emmylou Harris. He was born November 5, 1946 to parents, Ingram Cecil "Coon Dog" (1917–1958) and Avis (née Snively) Connor (1923–1965) and passed away September 19, 1973 at age 26, from an overdose, in Joshua Tree, California. Despite his short life, his impact can still be felt today in the country rock hybrid genre, that he helped create, known as "Cosmic American Music", which can still be heard at the venue he played as a teenager, now renovated, the Gram Parsons Derry Down.

Today we shine a light on the release called Live 1973 by Gram PArsons and The Fallen Angels. The LP was recorded March 13, 1973, about 6 months before Gram's death, at Ultra-Sonic Recording Studios, in Hempstead, New York as part of a live radio broadcast from WLIR-FM, a station located in Garden City, New York. It wasn't released until 1982 on Sierra Records and produced by John M. Delgatto and Marley Brant. The LP features Emmylou Harris and originally came with a bonus 7" record with an encore medley on one side and an interview with Parsons, Harris, and Jock Bartley on the other. If our copy, which we bought at Lakeland's own Jesse Carl Vinyl, ever held a copy, it is now long gone.
