STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - JOHN BARRY - THE BLACK HOLE (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK)

Great Monday morning gang and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember  British composer and conductor, John Barry (John Barry Prendergast OBE), best known for his work on eleven of the James Bond films, on this the 12th anniversary of his death.( He passed away January 30, 2011, age 77, from a heart heart. ) He was born November 3, 1933 in York, England to parents, John Xavier "Jack" Prendergast,  a projectionist during the silent film era, and his Mother, Doris Prendergast. After serving in the British Army, John learned to play the trumpet and started his own band called the John Barry Seven. By 1959 Barry was arranging for other musical acts and soon after began composing for film scores. That brings us to today's selection. Disney's film, The Black Hole film was released December 21, 1979. It was directed by Gary Nelson and stars  Maximilian Schell, Robert Forster, Joseph Bottoms, Yvette Mimieux, Anthony Perkins and Ernest Borgnine. The robots are voiced by Roddy McDowall and Slim Pickens. The plot finds the crew of the USS Palomino exploring deep space and on their way home when they discover a black hole and with it the abandoned and long-lost USS Cygnus nearby, which had been missing for 20 years. The soundtrack was released on Buena Vista Records in 1979 as well.
