Good morning record enthusiasts and welcome back to the Thursday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we remember New Orleans native and gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson, on what would have been her 112th Birthday . She was born in 1926 to parents Charity Clark and Johnny Jackson, a stevedore and weekend barber. She got her start singing in the church choir and later moved to Chicago and joined the gospel group, The Johnson Singers. When she went solo she was the first gospel act signed to Columbia. She passed away January 27, 1972, age 60, following a surgery. We honor her legacy by spinning The Power And The Glory by Mahalia Jackson With Orchestra And Choir Conducted By Percy Faith. The LP was released in 1960 on Columbia Records.
