STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK NEW JACK CITY - VARIOUS ARTISTS

Good morning, morning people and welcome back to the Thursday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we are thrilled to wish Newark, New Jersey native, rapper, songwriter, actor, producer, and Army veteran,  Ice-T ( Tracy Lauren Marrow) a very Happy 65th Birthday. Happy Birthday T ! He was born in 1958 to parents Solomon and Alice Marrow. His Father was a conveyor belt mechanic who raised him as a single Dad, after his Mother passed away while he was in 3rd grade.  Ice-T began his career in high school as part of the vocal group, The Precious Few of Crenshaw High School. In 1977, after the birth of his Daughter, he enlisted in the Army where he became interested in hip hop after hearing the groundbreaking song, "Rapper's Delight" by The Sugarhill Gang. After his enlistment he took on the name Ice-T and began performing as a DJ at parties and worked on his rap skills. In 1983 he released his first single, "Cold Wind Madness" and in 1987 released his first album, Rhyme Pays. In 1991, with the release of his 4th album,  O.G. Original Gangster, Ice introduced his side project, the metal band, Bodycount, who would soon be embroiled in controversy, with the release of their self titled debut album, featuring the song, "Cop Killer". Music wasn't his only bag as he started gaining roles in film and television, including the movies Breakin', Ricochet, Trespass, Surviving the Game, Johnny Mnemonic, Tank Girl, and New Jack City. Later on he would play the role of Odafin "Fin" Tutuola, a former undercover narcotics on the television show, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Today we get his party started with the soundtrack to the aforementioned film, New Jack City.

The movie, starring Wesley Snipes, Ice-T, Mario Van Peebles, and Judd Nelson was released March 8, 1991. In it, Snipes' character, Nino Brown, the leader of the Cash Money Brothers gang is pitted against Ice-T's Detective Scotty Appleton, who goes undercover to expose Nino Brown's budding crack cocaine organization. The soundtrack, released March 5, 1991, on Giant Records features tracks from Ice-T, Christopher Williams (who is also in the film), Troop and LeVert featuring Queen Latifah, Color Me Badd, the 2 Live Crew and more. The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the R&B charts and gave birth to two singles; "I'm Dreamin'" by Christopher Williams (#89 Hot 100, #16 Dance Music/Club Play, #1 R&B) and "I Wanna Sex You Up" by Color Me Badd (#27 Finland, #20 France, #18 Canada Singles, #11 Austria, #9 Ireland, #7 Switzerland, #5 Europe, Norway, Sweden, #4 Australia, Belgium, Germany, #3 Canada Dance/Urban, #2 the Netherlands, Billboard Hot 100, and #1 New Zealand, UK, Hot Dance Singles Sales, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs).
