STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - PRINCE - BATMAN

Good morning record enthusiasts and welcome back to the Thursday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Today marks 6 years since the untimely death of Minneapolis born singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actor, and record producer,  Prince Rogers Nelson. The artist who we all simply know as Prince was born June 7, 1958 and passed away  April 21, 2016, age 57, from an accidental fentanyl overdose. He is severely missed. We honor his legacy with my favorite Prince album, his 11th, and the soundtrack to the film Batman (also my favorite). Batman was released June 20, 1989 on the Warner Brothers label and produced by Prince, himself. It peaked at #5 in Spain, #4 in  Australia and New Zealand, #3 in Austria and Germany, #2 in Norway, and #1 in the Netherlands, Switzerland, the UK, the R&B charts, and the Billboard 200, where it remained fort 6 weeks. The 9 track album saw the release of 5 singles ; "Batdance" (#1 US, #1 US R&B, #2 UK),  "Partyman" (#18 US, #5 US R&B, #14 UK) , "The Arms of Orion" (#36 US, #27 UK) ,  "Scandalous!" (#5 US R&B), and "The Future" (#7 Netherlands). Prince appears as the character "Gemini" in two of the LP's music videos, "Partyman" and Batman". He is sort of a Two-Face character, an amalgam if you will of The Joker and Batman. The character was recently seen in the pages of the DC comic, Batman '89, which continues the story of Michael Keaton's/ Tim Burton's Batman. Our copy was purchased last year off of eBay and is a Venezuela pressing and the songs titles on the label are in Spanish. We also have this album on CD and the 45 to "The Arms of Orion", the duet with Sheena Easton. When I was younger, I would skip that track. As I've aged, I've grown to appreciate it more.
