Dark Clouds Rain Down Tears Washing Away Swirling Colors From The Clown's Face..
Good morning record enthusiasts and welcome back to the Thursday edition of Stuck In The Vinyl Again. Have you ever looked into the never-ending 'National Day' calendar of events ? It seems everyday of the week is a national day for something, often numerous things. For instance today is : National Keto Day, National Screenwriters Day, National Whipped Cream Day, and last but not least, National Bird Day. Now I tried to find an album that just screamed all four of those things but I could not, but can you imagine ? So I went with Bird Day. I know what you're thinking ... 'Ziggy this is the most birdbrain idea you've ever had', but bear with me, I assure you, it's not (by a long shot).
Our subject of sound today is : The Falcon And The Snowman (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) by The Pat Metheny Group. The film was released January 25, 1985 and distributed by Orion Pictures. It was directed by John Schlesinger (Midnight Cowboy) and the SCREENWRITER was Steven Zaillian (Schindler's List) and stars Timothy Hutton as Christopher Boyce, and Sean Penn as Andrew Daulton Lee, in a true story about two young men who sold US secrets to the Soviet Union.
The soundtrack, released February 22, 1985, on the EMI label, was composed and produced by Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. The latter is a member of the Pat Metheny Group. The LP peaked at #54 on the Billboard 200, #46 in the Netherlands, and #44 in Germany. Most of the score is moody and atmospheric and perhaps the highlight of it all is the side 2 opener, "This Is Not America" by David Bowie and The Pat Metheny Group. Speaking of Bowie, Sunday (01/08/23) marks what would be his 76th Birthday, and Tuesday (01/10/23) is the 7th anniversary of his passing (7 years already ? How can that be ?!)
