Today we remember singer songwriter, guitarist, actor, record producer, activist, and humanitarian, John Denver (Henry John Deutschendorf Jr.), on the 26tgh anniversary of his death. He was born on New Year's Eve 1943 in Roswell, New Mexico to Erma Louise (née Swope; 1922–2010) and Captain Henry John "Dutch" Deutschendorf Sr. (1920–1982),[11] a United States Army Air Forces pilot. He passed away on this day in 1997, age 53, when his light homebuilt aircraft, a Rutan Long-EZ crashed into Monterey Bay near Pacific Grove, California. When honor his legacy by spinning his ninth studio album, Windsong. The LP was released September 19, 1975 on the RCA label and produced by Milton Okun. It peaked at #14 in the UK, #5 in New Zealand, #2 in the Netherlands, and #1 in Australia, #1 on the Hot 100, and #1 on the Top Country Albums chart. Three singles were issued ; "Calypso" (#36 Ultratop 50 Wallonia, #7 Australia, #5 New Zealand, #2 Dutch Top 40, Single Top 100, Billboard Hot 100), "Fly Away" (#28 Canadian RPM Country Tracks, #13 Hot 100, Canadian RPM Top Singles, #12 Billboard Hot Country Singles, #2 Canadian RPM Adult Contemporary, #1 U.S. Billboard Easy Listening) and "Looking For Space" (#63 Canadian RPM Top Singles, #30 Billboard Hot Country Singles, #29 Billboard Hot 100, #23 Canadian RPM Country Tracks, #4 Canadian RPM Adult Contemporary, #1 Billboard Easy Listening).
