STUCK IN THE VINYL AGAIN - RED SOVINE - TEDDY BEAR

Good morning Wednesday warriors and welcome back to Stuck In The Vinyl Again . Today we are pleased to celebrate National Truckers Appreciation Day 2023, a day set aside in the 1980s to honor and recognize the hard working men and women who make sure our goods and services find their final destination. Can I get a 10-4 ? (Get it? October 4.) My Father, Brother, and cousins were all truck drivers and we appreciate them and all their on road contemporaries. With them in mind, we spotlight the 24th studio album by Charleston, West Virginia native and country music singer songwriter, Red Sovine (Woodrow Wilson "Red" Sovine). He was born July 7, 1917 and passed away April 5, 1983, age 62, after suffering a heart while driving. He is perhaps known for his truck driving songs "Giddyup Go" (1965) and "Teddy Bear" (1976), which both toped the country charts and the latter is the title track to our featured selection today. Teddy Bear, the LP was released in 1976 on the Starday label and reached #67 in Canada, #57 in Australia, and #1 on the Top Country Albums chart. The title track peaked at #49 on the Canadian RPM charts, #40 on the Hot 100, #12 in Australia and #1 on both the Canadian and US country singles charts. The song tells the tear-jerking tale of the little crippled boy Teddy Bear, whose over the air story of a deceased Father, brings a truckload of truckers to the boy's doorstep to give him rides in their 18 wheelers. If you need to cry, put this on.
