Good morning gang and welcome back to Saturday's Singles, a Birthday edition edition. First up on our calendar of cake is Strasburg, North Dakota native, accordionist, bandleader, and television impresario, Lawrence Welk. He was born March 11, 1903 to parents Ludwig and Christiana Welk, and passed away May 17, 1992, age 89 from pneumonia. Today would mark his 120th Birthday. For our purposes this morning, we have him on this 1962 DOT Records record, "Baby Elephant Walk". The tune was composed by Henry Mancini, with lyrics by Hal David and first released as part of the 1962 film Hatari! . Welk's instrumental version peaked at #84 on the Cash Box, #48 on the Hot 100, and #10 on the Adult Contemporary charts. It's B-side, "Theme From 'The Brothers Grimm'", reached #130 on the Cash Box.

Our second set of Birthday candles belongs to guitarist/ vocalist Art Todd. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 11, 1914. Today would have been his 109th Birthday. In 1941 he met his future Wife, Dotty Dabb, a pianist. They married and became a Husband and Wife musical duo, Art And Dotty Todd. They had a couple of Top 10 hits with "Broken Wings" (1953) and "Chanson D'Amour" (1958). Today we have them on this 1960 Dart Records single, "Chop Chop". as far as I can tell it did not chart. It is b/w "Say You". Both of these songs were written by the Todds and are instrumentals. Dotty passed away December 12, 2000, age 87, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Congestive heart failure claimed Art's life on October 10, 2007, age 93.
