SATURDAY'S SINGLES : ELVIS PRESELY and CAROLE KING

Good morning gang and welcome back to Saturday's Singles, a Number Ones edition. First we crawl into our musical time machine, and start pulling levers and turning dials to this day in 1957 when Elvis Presley had the #1 song in the land with "(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear". The song was released June 11, 1957 on the RCA Victor label. It was written by Kal Mann and Bernie Lowe and then produced by Walter Scharf. 1957 was the pre Hot 100 era and this particular song topped both the Best Sellers In Stores and Most Played By Jockeys surveys. It topped those charts for 7 weeks.  "(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear" and it's B-side,  "Loving You" were from the soundtrack to Elvis' second feature film, also called Loving You. Our copy is part of a box set called Elvis Presley - 20 Golden Hits In Full Color Sleeves. It was purchased at Treasure House Collectibles in Winter Haven, FL.

Our second musical temporal adventure takes us to the year 1971 where we trade in the King of Rock n roll for Carole King. On this day in '71 she had the top tune with "It's Too Late". The song, written by Carole King and Toni Stern, was released April 16, 1971 on Ode Records and produced by Lou Adler. It hails from her second studio album, Tapestry and features  "I Feel the Earth Move" on it's flip side. It is also from Tapestry and both tunes reached #1 on the Hot 100.
